The concept for Gelato Blu began a long time ago.  Over the past several years, I have been fortunate enough to make several trips to Italy. On those wonderful journeys I found myself making an almost daily trip to the local gelateria. Each time when I returned to the states, I would try to find a shop that could fulfill my daily craving. Sadly, I just could not find a place that made gelato in true Italian style.

Solving this dilemma was not easy. Gelato is an Italian product and the “secrets” are stored so cleverly in the Italian language and in the Italian culture. To crack the code, total immersion in the Italian culture was required.  Everything was put on hold here in the States and I moved to Siena, Italy where I attended Italian language school and traveled the country for almost 5 months searching out the best Italian gelato masters and great gelato shops.

Even though I am just part Italian, living under the Tuscan sun came naturally. Soon, with my new found understanding of Italian culture and a few well placed friends, who happened to be master Italian gelato makers, the secrets of gelato making began to reveal themselves.

When my adventure ended, I returned to the States. Armed with these secrets, books, and gelato recipes – all in Italian of course – I set out to establish my small gelato “fattoria”.  We opened the doors in the March 2007.  Our gelato and sorbets are now available to you in true Italian style – as they were originally intended to be enjoyed.

We are licensed and inspected by the City of Houston Health Department.  We are also licensed as a Wholesale Frozen Desert Manufacturer.  Providing Gelato Blu gelato to your customers assures them of not only a high quality product that tastes great, but a safe product that meets all food safety guidelines as well.
